Horizon Skylights fits roof lanterns, flat roof rooflights, roof windows and VELUX windows, along with electric opening, energy-efficient, walk-on and conservation rooflights and sun tunnels. We also replace misted sealed units and rooflights that have reached the end of their life. The work takes us from Swansea out into Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire and Bridgend, as far as about 30 road miles from the city.
The name comes from the bay. The horizon is the line the weather rolls in from, and the sky above it is what a good rooflight brings into a room.
Chosen for the wet days
Around here, a rooflight gets its verdict the first time it rains hard, and that is how we choose one. Four things decide whether you will be glad of it on a grey afternoon in November. Rainwater should leave the glass. The room under it should stay free of drips. A heavy shower should sound like weather outside, at a level you can talk over. And the glass should stay clear enough to show you the sky.
Every product handles those four differently, which is why the roof and the room come before the brochure. The full readout, product by product, is on how a rooflight should behave in the rain.
How a job runs
The way we work is short enough to fit on a postcard, and each part of it is something you can hold us to.
Four parts to every job
- Survey A free visit to look at the roof, its pitch and covering, the room beneath and which way the weather hits that side of the house.
- Quote Then a fixed written quote, matched to that roof and that room.
- Notification Where the work is notifiable, we handle the Building Regulations notification with local authority building control or a registered building control approver.
- Guarantee Ten years on our workmanship, set down in writing. See what it covers.
The right product for the roof
A flat extension roof, a steep slate slope and a windowless landing each call for something different. The pitch of the roof, the use of the room and how exposed that side of the house is between them narrow the choice down, usually to one or two products.
| Roof or situation | Products |
|---|---|
| Flat roof | Roof lanterns, flat roof rooflights, walk-on rooflights |
| Pitched roof | Roof windows, VELUX windows, conservation rooflights |
| Either | Electric opening, energy-efficient rooflights, sun tunnels |
| Existing unit misted | Misted rooflight replacement |
Where we work
Swansea is home, and the rest of the patch runs along the bay and up the valleys: Neath to the north-east and Port Talbot to the east, Llanelli and Carmarthen to the north-west, Bridgend further along the coast, and Gower to the south-west. Houses inside the Gower AONB are on protected land, which in Wales means a new rooflight in the roof slope needs planning permission; the skylight planning guide for Wales covers that and the other cases. Every town and village we cover is listed under areas.
