Our guarantee covers the part of the job that is ours: the fitting. For ten years from the date we finish, if something goes wrong because of the way we installed the rooflight, we put it right under the guarantee. You get it as a written document, so the terms are there to read whenever you need them.

The product itself, the glass, the frame, any motor or sensor, comes with the manufacturer's own warranty. That runs alongside ours on the maker's terms.

What it covers

Workmanship means the work we carried out at your house. On a rooflight job that includes:

  • forming the opening and trimming the structure around it, where we made a new one;
  • building the kerb or upstand we fitted, including its fall on a flat roof;
  • fixing the unit in place;
  • weathering it into the roof: the flashing, the lap of the covering around it, and the seals between frame and roof;
  • any wiring we installed for an electric unit;
  • finishing work inside that formed part of the job.

If water comes in around a frame because the flashing was set wrongly, or a kerb we built holds water, that is ours to put right.

What it leaves out

In plain terms, the guarantee does not cover:

  • damage from accidents, storms, falling branches or other impacts;
  • misuse, such as standing on a rooflight that was not made to be walked on;
  • problems caused by lack of reasonable upkeep, such as gutters or flat roof outlets left blocked;
  • changes made to the rooflight, or the roof around it, by anyone else after we finish;
  • faults in the product itself, which fall under the manufacturer's warranty;
  • condensation on the room side of the glass, which comes from moisture in the room.

Manufacturers' warranties

A failed sealed unit, a sticking motor or a rain sensor that stops working is usually a product question. Those sit with the manufacturer, on that maker's own terms, and the length varies from product to product. If you are unsure which applies, tell us what has happened and we will say whether it looks like our workmanship or the product.

How to claim

Get in touch the way that suits you, and keep your written guarantee to hand.

Making a claim

  1. Contact us Ring 01792 929062, WhatsApp 07880 284133, or email info@horizonskylightsswansea.co.uk.
  2. Tell us what you see Your address, the rooflight concerned, what you have noticed and roughly when it started. Photos help.
  3. We look at it We arrange to see the rooflight and work out whether the cause is our workmanship, the product or something else.
  4. Put right Where the cause is our workmanship, we put it right under the guarantee.

Why ten years, and why in writing

A rooflight's flashing and seals face every winter the bay sends at them, and a fitting fault can take a few hard seasons to show. Ten years covers plenty of those. Putting it in writing means you never have to rely on anyone's memory of what was promised. If you are weighing up a new rooflight, the way we work and how each product handles the rain are worth reading alongside this.

The guarantee: questions

Is a replacement sealed unit covered?

The fitting work on a sealed unit we replace carries the same 10-year workmanship guarantee. The new unit itself comes with its manufacturer's warranty.

Who do I contact if an electric rooflight stops opening?

Contact us first. If the cause turns out to be the motor or control itself, that falls under the manufacturer's warranty; if it is wiring we installed, it falls under ours.

Does storm damage count?

No. Damage from storms, falling branches and other impacts sits outside a workmanship guarantee, whoever fitted the rooflight.

What should I do if water appears around the frame?

Get in touch straight away by phone, WhatsApp or email, with a photo if you can. Water at the frame can come from the weathering, the roof around it or condensation, and working out which is the first step.

What proof do I need to claim?

Your written guarantee and the address of the job. Photos of the problem make it easier to understand before we come out.
